International Expert features in CPD Workshops

CPD Brochure Cover SmCPEE and The University of Sunshine Coast (USC) are combining to present the Pavement Engineering for Roads and Runways workshop series in Melbourne and Sydney. USC will also be presenting a Seminar at their campus on the Sunshine Coast, supported by CPEE. This is a unique opportunity for current engineers, technologists and asset managers to avail themselves of the latest developments from Europe and gain an insight into key technology issues of today through Keynote presentations by Emeritus Professor Andre Molenaar. This will be in concert with updates on Australian innovations and practices featuring Australian experts.

The program will provide a focussed opportunity for those in the road and pavement engineering sector to gain continuing professional development of both Australian and International developments. It is ideal for engineers and engineering technologists working for federal, state or local authorities, consultants and contractors. The Seminar to be held at USC/Sunshine Coast: May 24-26, and Workshops held in Melb: May 29-30 and Syd: June 1-2.

Keynote Speaker: Emeritus Professor André Molenaar - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

A Molenaar In 1972 André Molenaar obtained his MSc degree in civil engineering at the Delft University of Technology. After finishing his studies, André worked as scientific officer as the Chair of Highway Engineering of the Delft University and in 1977 he joined the laboratory for Road and Railroad Research.

He obtained his PhD in 1983. In 1985 he was appointed as managing director of Netherlands Pavement Consultants. In 1988 he returned to the Delft University as part-time professor in Highway Engineering, and in 1990 was appointed as full-time professor.


CPD Brochure Cover DatesHis duties outside the University include chairing many CROW committees and member of various RILEM committees in Europe, as well as member of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists in the USA.
In 2001 André was appointed as visiting professor at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and in 2005 he was appointed to a similar position at the Wuhan Technical University in China. André has lectured in many countries and has acted as a consultant in many projects all over the world. He has been a Keynote Speaker in many Australian and South African conferences and is very aware of the Australian environment and pavement technology and its practices.

Dr Greg White, Adjunct Associate Professor - Pavement Engineering and Research, University of the Sunshine Coast

Dr Greg White is the sole director and proprietor of APES and also holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor of Pavement Engineering at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Following a career as an Airfield Engineering Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, Greg worked for a number of leading Australian design consultants as a Principal Airport Pavement Engineer and then as the Technical Manager Airports for construction and surfacing company Fulton Hogan. In 2016 Greg established APES in order to provide specialist independent advice to the airport industry. Greg holds a number of Masters level degrees, as well as a PhD, all earned in the area of pavement materials and engineering. Greg is one of Australia’s most experienced and qualified airport pavement engineers and researchers.

Dr Erik Denneman, Director of Technology and Leadership, AAPA (tbc)
As Director of Technology and Leadership with the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association, Erik Denneman (PhD, CPEng, RPEQ) supports industry in the implementation of innovative pavement solutions. Before joining AAPA in July 2016, Erik led the ARRB Pavement Technology and Asset Management team in Brisbane.
He specialises in performance based design and specification of bituminous materials, and the development of advanced pavement design models for these materials. Erik has worked in the Netherlands, South Africa, the USA, and since 2012 Australia.

John Hodgkinson, Senior Consultant Tasman Associates Pty Ltd (tbc)
John is a pavement engineer with extensive experience in rigid construction as well as having been involved in developing and presenting special courses for concrete pavement construction over many years. John‘s recent consulting activities include developing concrete pavement design catalogues, presenting technical training courses in support of Malaysian MY10 Plan, developing reporting systems and on site work methods and practices for rapid replacement of concrete pavement slabs and as specialist advisor, concrete pavement design and construction cost estimation, NZ’s largest road contract. John is also the National Training Manager Grey Card course, for the Australian Society for Concrete Pavements (ASCP). In 2012 John was the recipient of the prestigious Roads Australia “Award for Technical Excellence”.
