20 Years – CPEE Achieves Milestone 

At the end of 2016, after 20 years of growth and enhancement, the CPEE vision is little changed. The circumstances which were the catalyst for the creation of CPEE those 20 years ago remain and stakeholder demands for the outcomes CPEE provides to meet these needs, have only intensified in recent years.

At a celebratory reception for key players in CPEE history, held on 1 December 2016, many past and present Council Members, Unit Writers and Unit Chairs attended along with the unique gathering of all past CPEE Independent Chairmen and CPEE CEO’s. The inaugural Chairman Lance Midgley and inaugural CEO, Ken Mavin were warmly recognised for their major contributions to the establishment of CPEE.

 

In 1996, the vision at the start of CPEE operations was:

“new technology will only be of benefit if it reaches the engineers who are designing pavements, or the construction specialist who are building and maintaining them. Unfortunately, tertiary education in pavement technology on a national, coordinated basis, has until now been largely non- existent”, and … “the benefits offered by CPEE via its nationally coordinated approach to education in pavement technology would not be confined to industry and the tertiary institutions themselves, but would flow on to local government, state road authorities, professional engineers and to the community generally”…

The current focus and outputs of CPEE retain the core intent of this original vision, providing testimony to the creators of CPEE for their foresight.
