This unit commences by refreshing project management fundamentals and definitions before moving to consider consultation with stakeholders, project assessment frameworks and the tools and techniques of project procurement. The strategic needs of client organisations are considered within project governance, assessment of project options, and the application of assessment tools and techniques such as multi-criteria and business case analyses. Students review project planning and controls for the successful delivery of project works and investigate how to evaluate the different contract types for successful delivery of projects, with particular attention to the Direct Management Project Delivery Model. The Unit concludes by considering the processes involved in formally completing a project, reviewing and evaluating its success and providing some ideas of the future directions of project assessment, delivery and completion.
